The Thang:

Next on the “practical applications of exercise” series is balance. Why is this important?
– Better overall body control and spatial awareness with everyday movements
– Smaller muscles that make innate adjustments when trying to balance are being worked
– Relieve any weakness with a particular side especially if your general movements are dominated to one side (i.e. tennis).

The rep counts were kept small (no more than 10 per side) but slow. Some of these movement are harder than they seem

Plank reaches – alternating sides so that you spend seconds on one arm
Plank forward-side-back – one hand reaches forward, out to the side, and back under chest, switch sides

Laps around the field were intermittently done to break up the reps and shake out the legs.

COT:

Q talked about “what’s next?” which is a tough question to ask after a personal momentous achievement. Examples could include your first marathon, a huge event that you organized, or an HTL. The most elite of the elite athletes often have it harder. I brought up Michael Phelps who has set and broken so many records in his sport that may not be broken for some time. After the “high” of achievement passed, he descended into drugs and alcohol to try to keep it going. He struggled with depression as well.

I am currently facing this question right now. I am already proud of what I have achieved so far this year, but I have to keep finding ways to get better which can be very difficult. Right now, my thoughts are in limbo as I try to recover back to full strength. I have a few rucking events coming up. I will be hitting a crossroads with other parts of my life as well. I am constantly asking myself “what’s next?” I pray that God will guide me in the right direction as He has throughout my life to get me here.

Kudos to Grillz for following through his set goal to do a Heavy, Tough, and Light event this year (in this case all in one weekend) in DC for the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Given the milestone of such a historical event that changed everyone’s lives, I have signed up as well. We got some work to do in the next two months.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day long weekend. A Q for a potential convergence on Independence Day is still up for grabs. I would be happy to assist for ideas and execution if needed.

Prayer (Slowhand)
