This morning we are considering Standards and what that means so as a primer we started off with 21s — 21 SSH counted silently with all PAX required to stop on the 21st count.

we repeated this twice, with only one round of burpee penalties. Evil Kinieval showed up late and still managed to get mostly into cadence with the last round of 21.

The Thang:

DIEGO — Pebbles mentioned something about having “Fatitis” I can’t be certain but I’m pretty sure it was made up.

Like the DORA except with a buddy. Teams of 3 partner up. While Pax1 Runs, the Pax2 spots form for Pax3. Minimum Requirement of 10 well executed reps by each pax before rotating. All Pax should have done a minimum 30 Reps and 90 Reps collectively. When Pax1 returns from the run rotate until each pax has performed exercises, spotted and run. Repeat x 3.

  • Merkins
  • Squats
  • Lunges

Head back to the Basketball CourtFor this YHC is just giving the PAX their monies worth.

Lined up shoulder to shoulder.
Gorilla crawl to halfcourt (Pebbles so graciously educated us is the grassline.) and perform 5 burpees. Gorilla crawl back.
Bear Crawl 3/4 the way down the court. 5 burpees. bear crawl back.
Duck walk (stay low and do it correctly) to the far end. 5 burpees. run back.

Moleskin / CoT:

Regardless of industry or vocation there is always a measure by which all can derive their ideas of success. Commonly, we call this a Standard.

Societally we can look at brands who exemplify high standards like Apple computers or in my case I drive a Volvo partly because of its high value on safety.

First I’m going to define standard?

A Standard is a level of quality or attainment.

Some organizations define it as:

“Formal, detailed instructions—describable, measurable, and achievable. They provide a mark for performance to assess execution of a task.”

As a team, it aligns the individuals on a measurable objective of performance to avoid becoming in-effective. I will also to note, both the team and the individual need Standards but all are meaningless if they are not enforced.

So here are 3 oversimplified aspects of Standardization that we worked through today:

  1. Articulate standards
  2. Enforce the objective
  3. Accept correction or consequences

In the gloom this morning we practiced all of these by 1. Articulating the standard, 2. Enforcing the objective, and 3. Accepting correction or consequence. This is incredibly important to prevent injury, poor performance, or just looking like an ass. But beyond the here and now there is a need for us, as individuals and as an organization, to create a system of accountability so we are not ruled by our Blind Spots.

This distinction between a moral weakness and a Blind Spot is reflected in the first step of AA: we admitted we were powerless over alcohol–that our lives had become unmanageable. This step is first because an alcoholic cannot begin to recover until he accepts that fact that for him the abuse of alcohol is not a moral weakness but a Blind Spot. For other people, non-alcoholics, it might be different but that is irrelevant to the alcoholic’s recovery

Wrapping it up,

Just like we can’t be out here cranking out merkins or squats in bad form. That just can’t happen. We must also identify our blind spots (both as individuals and as a team) so we can operate within a measurable objective and remain effective.

That’s all I’ve got. Y’all have a great day and let’s get after it.
