Work: This was an epic fail on the part of the Q. Initially I had planned a tour of FAMU monuments to celebrate Black History Month. After copious amounts of web research, I couldn’t find any locations of civil rights monuments at FAMU. Audible was called. Figured we would head to the integration statue at FSU. Have I mentioned that I don’t estimate distances well?
Set off for FSU. ADHD set in shortly thereafter. Saw some volleyball courts. Did some burpee suicides in the sand. Took time to consider the fact that less than 50 years ago in our city, segregation was still very much alive.
Continued to FSU. Saw BK Roberts hall (which doesn’t apparently stand for Burger King). Did some bear and crab crawls. Continued to FSU. Went past Ruby Diamond, down past the Suwanee Room and to Landis Green. We did hydro-burpees in the Legacy Fountain and then some hydro-flutters as well. Geronimo Blue-Falcon-ed everyone after spotting some pull-up bars so we did some pull-ups and sprints. Time to head back.
Shortly after starting back, we ran into Drago walking behind Ruby Diamond holding a pillow. He claimed he was going camping, we accused him of doing the walk of shame.
It was on the trip back that the 2-3 lbs of broccoli Socrates had consumed the night before began to affect the group. In case you were wondering, smells can be so powerful you can almost taste it. After deciding that Socrates is no longer allowed in the front of the pack, we headed back to Cascades. Stopped by the DACS building to run the stairs a couple times. It was right about here that the Socrates and his broccoli flatulence really went to the next level. We really need one of the 3 dozen lawyers we have in F3 to see if he violated some parts of the Geneva Convention by what odors came out of his body.
Nevertheless, we persevered and made it back to the flag. Turns out that limited travel meant 4.51 miles. We did it in exactly 60 minutes and made sure we did Monkey Humpers every time we had to wait to cross the street.
COT: Took time to remember that segregation is not in our distant past and that there are still a number of ways we can all grow in love for one another. If we believe that the government can come in and make everyone love each other and play nice together, we are deluded. It is up to us. One relationship at a time. As men of faith, it is our goal and desire to make sure we are a light to everyone and that our thoughts, actions, and attitudes reflect the gospel in every situation. This is a great time to make sure our thoughts and opinions are based on the teachings of Jesus instead of our political affiliations or family traditions. Used the example of Jesus and the fact that he shook things up by associating with the marginalized and isolated during His time on earth. Mentioned the book by Alvin Schmidt “How Christianity Changed The World“.
