Fred George – Tuesday, 7/20/21
PAX: Hondo, Angus, Socrates, Recount, Red Elephant
Q: Crab Legs
Warm-up: Stretching of the arms and legs in prep for some travel
Work: The recent rains left the football field unusable so we called an audible and explored the area around Fred George Park. It is a 1 mile run from the flag to Genesis Church at the corner of Fred George and Mission Road. Almost entirely a beautiful, elevated synthetic deck material that protected us from traffic. Once off the boardwalk, we played a game of Driveway Burpees. It is a simple game. Every driveway we cross on the way to our destination is an extra burpee. We did one at the first driveway, two at the second driveway, etc. Turns out there are 13 driveways on the way to Genesis Church for a total of 91 burpees.
At the church, we did an Ab set with each Pax choosing an ab exercise and leading the group in 10 reps. Turn around and head back to the flag.
On the way back, we did a descending order ladder with some minor changes. First driveway was 13, 8-count body builders. 2nd driveway was 12, 12-count Man Makers. The remainder of the driveways, in the interest of time, were descending counts of a deconstructed burpee (jump squats at one drive way, merkins at another driveway, etc.) This culminated with a super burpee at the last driveway which was a burpee with 13 merkins, 13 split jacks, 13 jump tucks? and 13 squats.
Back to the flag for COT.
Q shared the hostage dilemma that occurred at the recent F3 HTL (talk to someone who did the event for more details. But maybe not Geronimo, he might kill you 🙂 ) and the lesson that there are things that are just plain wrong and we need to identify them and call them out. In our current age of being understanding and sensitive, there is a strong pressure to not judge and to be understanding of differences. While I agree with this in general and believe that Jesus calls us to love one another and be ministers of God’s grace, it is easy to become, as GK Chesterton said, “…so open-minded that your brain falls out.” During the F3 HTL it was personally challenging to see how easy I can overthink a situation and not step back to assess the situation in light of my beliefs and what I know to be morally right or wrong. I believe that it is very easy in today’s world to lose sight of right/wrong as there is a huge pressure to accept everyone’s viewpoint and/or lifestyle as valid and healthy. Isaiah 5: 20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Contrary to current opinion, right and wrong do exist and as a man, I must make sure I don’t lose sight of those truths in my daily walk lest I lead my family and friends astray.
