The Beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-10). Jesus teaches us that if we live according to the Beatitudes, we will live a happy life.

1. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
The poor include both literally poor people, in need of basic necessities, and figuratively poor people, who are aware of their spiritual poverty, people who acknowledge their need and utter dependence upon God.

2. “Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Those who mourn could be anyone who is sad or experiencing a loss of any kind. When we suffer we have a choice to make: we can become bitter, or we can become more compassionate to others in pain.

3. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.”
The meek are people who are humble and patient. The meek are not quick to take offense at others; they are very patient with others because they know that God has always been patient with them. When we take a good hard look at how often we have been wrong over the years, how often our impressions, inferences, conclusions, and convictions have turned out to be mistaken, we tend to be less self-righteous.

4. “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.”

Many are very passionate about their goals, but those ambitions often have little to do with making this a more just world and more to do with their own individual fulfillment. But an indication that the Lord is drawing you into himself, is that you are the kind of person who loves justice more than you love yourself, as opposed to the kind of person who looks out for himself first, and only later, after all his needs are met, concerns himself with others.

5. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
Mercy is a word that holds many meanings: forgiveness, kindness, compassion.

6. “Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.”
The clean of heart see God first in all situations and people. To be pure in heart is to have an undivided love for God, a heart unmixed with any other competing love. Some people love creation more than the Creator; they love things; they worship things, wealth, the pleasures of the earth, or the glorification of the self.

7. “Blessed are the peacemakers, they will be called children of God.”
We must continue to work for unity and understanding. Our families are microcosms of the world in which we learn peacemaking skills. Peace begins at home. A peacemaker is one who strives to bring together, to maintain a genuine harmony among people. A is one who is willing to ‘make’ peace, to work for it, even to fight for it.

8. “Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Do the right thing. There is a real difference between joy and pleasure; for there is no pleasure in being persecuted, but you do find joy in the very recesses of the soul in being persecuted on account of Christ.

Mr. Kotter coincidently read the Sermon on Mount earlier this week.

Ron Swanson shared that every man at F3 motivates him in a different way. He came this morning for Different Strokes 3rd post. He tries not to miss a VQ, a Birthday Q, or FNG naming. His son had a good 3-month check-up after eye surgery.

Mr. Emcee shared that his wife’s Cabella Farms is having a costume horse event Saturday at 4:00.

Tarzan appreciates the level of humility at F3.

Chernobyl had the quote of the day that was chosen for the name of this Q. He said the QIC forgot the 9th beatitude: “Blessed be the poor in stamina….”.

El Jefe has the Southwood Q on Tuesday.

Chernobyl has the Southwood Q on Friday.
