“Newton’s First Law”

QIC: Wiseguy

PAX: Iron Horse, Florence, Senator, Mensa, Crab Legs, Hawkeye, Private Ryan

Lord’s Prayer @ 0525

We made the trek to the mini-track at the I-10 side of the campus.  We stayed in constant motion with various exercises around the track.  We started slowly with some warmup exercises and then ramped up to tougher exercises.  With the tougher exercises, we only went about 50 m and then cool down jog the rest of the way (about 150 m).  The key is to stay in motion the whole way through even if you have to walk it.  We had a pit stop station on the side of the track to keep our water.  Exercises were called by the Q, not necessarily in the order listed below.

Warmup exercises:
Slow jog
Backpedal
Side shuffles
Carioca
High knees
Butt kicks
Hip circles
Frankensteins

Other exercises:
Bear crawl
Crab walk
Sprint/fast run
Broad jump
Burpee broad jump
Lunges

Debrief:

  • To stay in motion for 50 straight minutes is not that easy, even if it is just walking!
  • PAX got plenty of steps in this morning.  In terms of training for these last few days, I am just looking to get loose, have good range of motion, and get the blood flowing, not to kill myself.

COT:

  • HTL Tampa in T-3 days!  It is getting more real by the second.  This time is where mental preparation needs to happen.  Emotions are all over the place and there needs to be a one-track focus.
  • With Newton’s First Law, all objects will stay in motion unless acted upon by another force.  Most of the time, that force is friction.  In our own lives, we have goals and endpoints in mind, but there are so many forces out there that can have us change directions, slow us down, or even move us backward.  It is important to recognize what these forces are, and then, mitigate or eliminate them wherever possible.  It is amazing how much faster towards our goals we can go without them.
  • Star Course last November was a huge wake-up call for me.  Since that time, I had made many adjustments to my life to reach my goals for this year, including, but not limited to, diet, training regimens, rest, sleep, and mental toughness.  The smallest of adjustments one by one over time will get to where you want to go before you know it.  It requires sufficient patience and trust.
  • It will be a little while before I come back for a belated Birthday Q.  The Light of the HTL will finish on my birthday.  Private Ryan will take the mantle this Saturday at Cascades Park.   (We share the same birthday.  Plus, he is better looking than me.)
  • Hawkeye reminisced about Thomas, an elderly gentleman, who worked at Golden Eagle and has an amicable personality.  Unfortunately, Thomas has a bad prognosis and will be entering Hospice.  It is amazing how much a good attitude and positive outlook on life can rub off on other people.
  • It feels like we have not seen Iron Horse in forever.  We almost did not recognize him.
  • I hope to see everyone at Christmas in July tomorrow morning with Little Debbie!

Update on Qs:

  • Wednesday Winthrop Convergence – Little Debbie
  • Thursday Gilchrist – Hawkeye
  • Friday Meadows – Iron Horse? (subject to change)
  • Friday Southwood – Ron Swanson
  • Saturday Cascades – Private Ryan
  • Monday Chiles – OPEN
  • Monday Leon – GI Joe
