“Paying the Sweat Tax: Stay in the Black”

QIC: Wiseguy

PAX:  Iron Horse, Florence, Dimples, Great Dane, Doc T, Mensa, Pebbles, Fish, Safety, Slowhand

Lord’s Prayer @ 0525

The Thang:
Deck of cards with the following exercises:

  • Spades – American hammer (sit on your butt with heels off the ground and rotate arms and core from side to side)
    • Modifier – American hammer with heels on the ground
  • Clubs – Rocket jumps (hands touch the ground in a low squat and then jump with hands in the air)
    • Modifier – Regular squat
  • Hearts – Donkey kick (push-up position, hands remain on the ground and then legs jump and kick off the ground
    • Modifier – Plank jacks
  • Diamonds – Jack push-up (push-up position with arms and legs close together; as you come down, you spread your arms and legs out and then push off from that position back to start)
    • Modifier – Regular push-ups
  • Card values:
    • 2-10 = Number of reps on the card
    • J = 11
    • Q = 12
    • K = 13
    • A = 15
    • Joker = all four exercises in the number of reps as the age of the person who picked the card
  • Stay in the black:
The modification that was made to the standard “deck of cards” workout is that for every red card we run the entire small bleacher.  The red card meant that we had to pay the “sweat tax”.  Black cards did not have this “sweat tax”.

Debrief:

  • The deck was not completed.  We went through 33 cards before the time was up.
  • This gassed many people, but I still have not made anyone vomit!  One of my new goals (that I created just this morning) for F3 this year is to cause someone to “splash merlot” (F3 term for throwing up during a workout).
  • The workout got off to an amazing start when Dimples picked the first card as the Joker.  The other Joker was not picked.  (It could have been much worse, folks!)
  • I wanted to try some more complex exercises.  Especially when there were only 2-5 reps of the exercise, I wanted the PAX to try them out and see if they can do it.

COT:

  • Happy 51st birthday to Doc T! (Respect + 1)  FYI, if you have a birthday coming up and someone else has called the Q on that day, you are more than welcome to ask that person to switch.  I don’t sense that anyone would have a problem with that.
  • It was a pleasure for me to meet Great Dane for the first time.  For whatever reason, April seems to be the month where we have PAX who have re-emerged from the fart sack.  Let’s keep this up!
  • Fish was contemplating returning home after his extra-early 5K run (and thus skip the workout), but, instead, CTHT and toughed it out with us, even though he didn’t have his special F3 sneakers with him.  I am inspired by the 5K a day challenge that he has instilled.  I am mocking up my new training regimen guidelines now and it will include a form of distance running in it.  You may or may not realize this, but there are many ways where you guys inspire me to be a better man.  I hope I do the same for you.
  • Dimples and Pebbles are vowing to have a full 5-days worth of posts this week.  I plan on doing the same according to the preliminary schedule I laid out for myself.  Let’s keep us accountable!
  • Safety is continuing with his consistency.  I have harped on consistency on prior backblasts.  He is definitely a front runner for the FNG MVP award at the end of the year.

Update on Qs:

  • Thursday Gilchrist and Friday Meadows are still OPEN.
  • Tuesday Gilchrist – Cathy
    • GORUCK April “Lucky 7” Ruck Challenge, Day 5
    • Whatever other shenanigans in the time remaining.
  • Wednesday Chiles – Hawkeye
  • Wednesday Winthrop – Jugs
  • Friday Southwood – AOL
